Automobiles in Germany's Town Discovered Covered with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Authorities reported they were contacted by a man who noticed a car in Hanau smeared with reddish liquid

Approximately 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.

Cars, walls and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.

Law enforcement report they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.

The fluid had been applied in the shape of a swastika, they added.

Police then found multiple other smeared cars and house walls in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police say early analysis suggest the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.

"There is still no lead as to where it came from; authorities are presently not informed of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they commented.

City officials said they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the residents for information.

A senior political figure said the incident rendered him speechless and needed to be addressed quickly.

"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the right-wing attack five years ago," he wrote on a platform, recalling the death of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
